A little info about each charity:

Cancer Research UK

CR UK are the world’s largest charity dedicated to saving lives through research.

Their vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Cancer touches all of us and 1 in 2 of us will unfortunately have a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives. Cancer Research UK are passionate about early diagnosis and survival, keeping families together instead of cancer destroying them. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s only 25% of people would survive a diagnosis, today it’s 50% and this is primarily due to their research. They aren’t stopping there though, they have a very ambitious goal, and this is to see this rise to 75% by 2034 and here at Miss GB we are proud to now be a part of that!

Alex’s Wish

Alex’s Wish is a registered charity with a mission to eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Duchenne affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born.  It’s a devastating aggressive fatal muscle wasting disease which leaves children completely paralysed by late teens.

Duchenne is caused by a mutation on the X chromosome, boys are born with the condition and it can affect any family. Boys are missing a vital protein and as a result every single muscle in their body is destroyed. It is 100% fatal and most boys are only expected to live until their mid-twenties due to heart and respiratory complications.

Alex’s Wish founder Emma Hallam set-up the charity shortly after her son Alex was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 4.  Being told not enough funding is going into research to bring about effective treatments to help delay symptoms, they set about a mission to raise £1M by 2020.

With the help of their amazing supporters, they have now raised £850K and with your support they hope to reach their milestone sooner. Once reached, they will continue to fund life-saving drug developments until a cure is found.

Funding split:

All funds raised this year will be split 70% to Cancer Research UK and 30% to Alex’s Wish.

Thank you for supporting these wonderful causes.
